Alfie’s is in between locations, but once it reappears make your way over there pronto for some of the best authentic Thai food in this area, along with some delicious creative cocktails. The menu changes every day, which makes everything super fresh.
Bad Saint (3226 11th St NW)
Delicious, flavorful Filipino food that is worth the 2+ hour wait you will likely have to withstand. Highlights from our visit included the bitter melon and clams and Chinese sausage. The hype is real.
El Chucho (3313 11th St NW)
A friend introduced us to the excellent happy hour here ($3 Tecate tallboys and $4 margs ON TAP), but we’ve been back several times for dinner as well. The tacos are all super delicious (the lengua is my fave) and the Mexican street corn is amaze.
Room 11 (3234 11th St NW)
A cozy eclectic wine bar/coffee place. We went for drinks and to share a few apps, and they had a very good cheese selection to go with our wine.
Thip Khao (3462 14th St NW)
Your introduction to Laotian food. They have some traditional items you might find on a Thai menu, but the real draw here is the “Jungle menu,” where you will find heads, tails, and all sorts of other exotic items. The snakehead fish was a standout along with the alligator.
Little Coco’s (3907 14th St NW)
Delicious Italian restaurant from the owner of El Chucho. Pizzas and pastas abound, with the most famous being the pizza frito. Even if you get it, don’t skimp on the delicious pastas and leave room for the homemade gelati for dessert!
Mezcalero (3714 14th St NW)
Little taco joint excellent prices. The shrimp and pastor tacos were favorites, along with the queso fundido. They have a mezcal bar as well.
